Pierzynski to resume baseball activity

Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic confirmed what Pierzynski knew, that his injury isnt considered serious. The veteran catcher, currently on the 15-day disabled list, was cleared to begin baseball activity Friday.
Im going to start light, start slow, swinging a lighter bat to get to the full range of motion, Pierzynski said. Im probably at about 90 percent range of motion and they want to get back to 100 percent and slowly build up. Its not a rush. Im not going to come off in a day or two. Its going to be a while, so we have some time to work with this thing and hopefully it works out.
He is scheduled to come off the disabled list late this month, but Pierzynski is targeting a Sept. 1 return when rosters are expanded.
The injury occurred Friday when he was hit by a pitch from the Royals Bruce Chen. He didnt play Saturday or Sunday, but was available as the emergency catcher if needed. He was finally put on the DL on Monday.
Pierzynski was most encouraged Thursday with the news that he cant do anything worse to the injury. But he was also told to wear a wrist guard whenever possible, just in case.
As long as I have full confidence in all the doctors, both at Rush [University Medical Center] and the Cleveland Clinic, that they said I really cant do anything worse to it, so the pain will go away and it wont be a big deal, he said.
