Local fan report: Flooding rains washing away sports in Southwest Missouri

Posted By on April 29, 2011

The sun finally came out after a week and the Cardinals tried to play a double header to make up for April 25s washout. Even the first game was in a delay before the NW Arkansas Naturals rallied to beat the home club 4-3.

The second game didnt start until nearly 10 pm

We understand the farms need the rain and the trees will be green after all the rain. Even the birds know lots of rain means lots of food for them.

But as the weather gets warmer in southwest Missouri, we like to come out of our little houses and enjoy the outdoors. We like to fish, walk, jog, hike, shoot hoops and play catch in the yard. All this pesky rain is putting a damper on our spring rituals.

Even the sirens blared at Table Rock Dam warning Branson residents that the rain is not cooperating with our normal lives. Spring sports help us maintain a sense of normalcy around here. We like smelling the dirt of the baseball infield, not the sawdust of diamond dry mixed with soft dirt.

The Springfield Cardinals could probably use some more rain delays. They are still in last place as they take on the first-place Naturals. Hey, not playing a game counts as a non-loss right?

High school teams just want to get on with their season as the state playoffs approach. Theres only a month left of school for many teams and the state playoffs may bite into family vacations at this point.

Its a time-honored tradition in America about how sports are at the mercy of the weather. Blizzards have done in the roof of the Metrodome, hurricanes have wrecked the dreams of entire NFL city and now floods have pummeled Missouri into submission.

We give. Enough of the rain. Lets play ball.
